Founded in 1978 by Bronx native and Veteran Michael T. Ungaro, Metro Optics is a Bronx-centric company serving the community for four decades. In fulfilling our mission to provide world-class optometric services right here in the Bronx, all 4 Metro Optics locations in Parkchester, Westchester Square, Hunts Point and Throggs Neck are fully wired with electronic medical records, advanced eye care technology and tools, and audio/visual outfitting for eye health education, as well as an extensive collection of designer eyewear and contact lenses. In 2018, Central Eyes Optical of Hartsdale became part of the Metro Optics group (our company's first official presence in the Westchester market).
Metro Optics is a frequent supporter of numerous community nonprofits and small business development initiatives in addition to the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, including VISIONS Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Business Improvement Districts, and Merchant Associations. As part of our community relations program, we partner with local organizations to host and participate in free events throughout the Bronx year-round, promoting eye health awareness via free vision screenings and educational presentations. We also offer affordable eye care packages to patients who are uninsured, as well as group plans for employees of local businesses and organizations, to facilitate access to comprehensive eye care.
In addition to receiving the Made In The Bronx Award at this year’s Chamber Gala, Metro Optics has been named a Top 50 Local Small Business of NYC by 1010 WINS, and was honored as an Age Smart Employer by the Robert N. Butler Columbia University Aging Center for our commitment to hiring, engaging, and retaining employees of all ages and backgrounds. In 2017, the company was selected as a finalist in INVISION Magazine’s America’s Finest Optical Retailers contest.
