MI Women Win was formed in 2012 by women legislators who understood first-hand the importance of electing and appointing more women to state office. In our initial year, MI Women Win provided financial campaign support to 11 candidates. 2014 saw that number quadruple with more than 75% of candidates endorsed by MI Women Win elected to office. But we're not stopping there. With women still outnumbered in the Capitol 5 to 1, and the tide of regressive legislation rising, we are implementing new winning strategies for 2016.
We are working to encourage greater participation of women (and men) in establishing progressive policy through engagement campaigns targeting current legislation. And we're going beyond fundraising to aggressively recruit and provide early training and support to candidates.
