Minnan Normal University is a key construction university in Fujian Province. From the original Longxi Normal School established in the spring of 1958, the normal college of Zhangzhou University was established on the basis of the normal college in September of the same year. In the spring of 1959, Zhangzhou Normal College was established on the basis of the former Normal College of Zhangzhou University. In July 1963, with the approval of the State Council, Zhangzhou Normal College, Xiamen normal college, Quanzhou Normal College and Nanping normal college merged to establish the second Fujian Normal College in Zhangzhou. Enrollment was stopped in 1966 because of the "Cultural Revolution" and closed in 1970.
