My name is Dr. Julio C. Caba, and I hold a Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialization in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. To complete my degree, I conducted research on a personal challenge: leadership. Despite my skills and work ethic, I often found myself overlooked for management roles.
Initially, I believed this was due to being a minority, but my research revealed there were deeper issues at play. I interviewed 20 Hispanic professionals—10 leaders (CEOs and vice presidents) and 10 aspiring leaders who had not been given opportunities. All participants held master's degrees, ensuring education wasn't the determining factor.
By comparing their responses, I identified key differences in mindset, training, and experience. The insights I gained enabled me to step into leadership roles in multiple organizations. My research offers valuable guidance for anyone aspiring to become a leader, regardless of their background.
