The Monaco Fine Arts History
Evelina Giannoulidi grew up in a bilingual environment with a Russian mother and Greek father. She was exposed very early on in life to the pleasures and challenges of running an art gallery, since her father co-owned the art business. It seemed only natural that Evelina would follow in her father’s footsteps, and she was accepted to study at the prestigious Central Saint Martins Art School, part of the University of London. After graduating, Evelina worked in organizing events and exhibitions on the London art scene.Evelina later met Mike McKee, who had been long-established in Monaco as a gallerist. She realized immediately that his depth of knowledge and her own vision would make the perfect combination in a new Monaco Fine Arts gallery.
Monaco Fine Arts has been at the very centre of the Monaco art world since its foundation in 1976 by Michael McKee. The Gallery soon became an iconic fixture on the Monte-Carlo art scene, offering a selection of original paintings, watercolours and sculptures, specialising on 19 and 20 century impressionist art. Thanks to Mike McKee’s earlier career as a racing driver, many of the paintings in the gallery reflected the glamour of racy Monaco in the golden days of the fifties and sixties. Frank Sinatra was one of many celebrities who became a regular visitor to Monaco Fine Arts and a valued patron over several decades. The Gallery in the Sporting d’Hiver was a showcase for the very best emerging artists as well as being a haven for collectors of impressionist art and there were always some small Renoirs in stock. Art lovers could always be sure of the individual attention of Mike McKee. Monaco Fine Arts built up an unsurpassed reputation over many years. That continues today.
