"A moot is a mock trial involving argument on different points of law before a moot judge. This is done within a court setting involving a hypothetical case on appeal from a lower court.
What does mooting involve?
There are a number of different aspects to mooting:
researching the law
structuring legal argument
using legal authorities (case law and statute)
drafting a summary of submissions (skeleton arguments)
presenting the submission before a moot judge in a court setting
responding to opponent's submissions
responding to questions from the judge
understanding court etiquette and procedure
judging a moot (writing a judgment on the law)
organizing a moot"
