In 2018, at age 25, I was paralyzed from the waist down in a bicycle accident. Six years later, I became a paralympic bronze medalist in paratriathlon in Paris 2024. I owe so much of my success to the support of the disabled community, so it felt important to me to give back in some small way. I serve as a peer mentor for Spinal Cord Injury Manitoba, and when I am supporting newly injured individuals, they often ask me what helped me the most with the mental health aspects of spinal cord injury recovery? My answer has always been- the support that I have received from the disabled community. The friends that I have met in the disabled community (mostly through sport) are some of the most kind, generous, positive, insightful people that you can imagine. Many of them also happen to be extremely accomplished athletes. More than Medals was born from a desire to share with the world, the lessons that my friends in the parasport community have taught me. By sharing their stories, we want to offer listeners the opportunity to get to know some of my favourite humans, who also happen to be Paralympic Champions, World Champions, World Record holders and disability advocates.
