About MOXY O.I.D.
MOXY is the first R&D group globally to invent a way to use mineralization in manufacturing which molecularly changes natural fibers and binds them into a super-material, without glue or cement. Moxy’s proprietary and low energy manufacturing process utilizes low value lignocellulosic wood or agricultural plant fibers to produce materials which can be engineered into a wide variety of building products, such as home siding, roofing tiles, or sheathing. Moxy’s new mineralized material has superior characteristics: it is fire-, mold-, water- & termite- resistant & costs less than comparables. The mineralization sequesters the plants’ carbon permanently, lending to a CO2-negative process. Moxy has already built a successful pilot line and is now ready for commercialization. Moxy has named the new material Cerlos and will first focus on the home siding market. • Feedstock and Process: 80% of the input volume can be any fiber. Fibers from forestry or agricultural scraps are introduced to a non-toxic mineral and liquid to form an extremely durable and fire-resistant composite wood. Inputs can be sourced from diverse routes such as woodchips although thorough testing of new types of feedstock and species are required. • Performance Advantages: Cerlos building materials are all-weather stable as well as a fire-, mold- and insect-resistant. Cerlos overcomes limitations posed by wood-based, plastic, and cement composites outmatching their combined performances while maintaining dimensional stability. • Inexpensive: Cerlos can be priced at a 20%-40% discount to competing fiber cement. • Workability: Cerlos can be cut, nailed, and painted just like wood. • Non-toxic: Unlike fiber-cement, cutting Cerlos does not release toxic carcinogens. • End-of-Use: Cerlos has a unique DNA identifying it at landfills for redirection to either be reused/recycled indefinitely in new Cerlos products or granulated and used as a slow-release fertilizer.
