Muharraq Governorate is one of the four governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain and is considered the historical cradle of the kingdom. The governorate is located to the northeast of the Capital Governorate and is connected to the main island by three marine bridges: Sheikh Hamad Bridge, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Bridge, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Bridge, with a fourth bridge under construction.
Muharraq Governorate was established pursuant to Decree Law No. (16) of 1996 regarding the governorate system.
