Nameless Sound Overview

The mission of Nameless Sound is to present the best of international contemporary music and to support the exploration of new methods in arts education. Nameless Sound presents concerts by premier artists in the world of creative music. In addition, Nameless Sound and its artists work directly with young people in public schools, community centers, and homeless shelters. Nameless Sound’s Creative Music Concert Series features a diverse range of the most vital international names in experimental music, improvisation, sound art and jazz. The series presents the living legends, the emerging innovators, and the unsung heroes. Concerts happen in a range of locations, including traditional performance spaces as well as site-specific settings that suggest dialog with art installation and architecture, and the occasional unconventional public intervention. They, Who Sound is our weekly series of experimental sound-making, improvised music, noises, the sounding of art, the performance of art, and more. Two different sets every Monday night showcase the rich and vibrant diversity of international and regional creative offerings, with an emphasis on Houston’s vibrant local scene. Our Creative Communities program is a forward-thinking music education & social-emotional learning initiative through which we collaborate with nearly 200 young people each week. Through improvisation and group dialog, our team of Artist-Facilitators provides a safe, inclusive space for creative work, knowledge transfer, therapy, and play in Greater Houston homeless shelters, refugee communities, community centers, and public schools. Classes include three creative music workshops, open to the public that anyone—of any age, ability, or experience—can join.
