Nansensenteret er en ledende europeisk forskningsinstitusjon etablert i Bergen i 1986. Vårt hovedfokus er å forstå og forutsi endringer i havmiljøet og klimaet i Nord-Atlanteren og Arktis. Gjennom omfattende samarbeid med andre nasjonale og internasjonale forskningsmiljøer bidrar vi til å løse vår tids store samfunnsutfordringer. Gjennom senterets forskning utvikles kunnskap som danner grunnlag for innovative løsninger på globale utfordringer til nytte for samfunnet.  Vår forskning skjer primært i samspill med andre forskningsmiljøer, men også med næringsliv og offentlige aktører. Senteret har et utstrakt nasjonalt og internasjonalt samarbeid, og bidrar også til opplæring av unge forskere.  Organisasjonen er prosjektbasert med finansiering fra Norges forskningsråd, Europakommisjonen, ulike nasjonale og internasjonale romfartsorganisasjoner, etater, og forskningsfond, samt grunnbevilgning fra Klima- og Miljødepartementet.
