NANSEN develops legal expertise on international protection and makes it available. This expertise is further enriched by our interdisciplinary approach. We are active in the field, by giving personalised advice, visiting and monitoring detention centres, offering support to lawyers and intervening at the asylum authorities. Persons in a vulnerable position are core to our mandate, especially victims of torture, stateless persons and persons in administrative detention. NANSEN is based in Brussels and has three working languages: Dutch, French, English. The team consists of specialised lawyers and a director. Since its creation, NANSEN has been recognised as a national partner by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
