NARSS is Egypt’s leading institution in satellite remote sensing and space sciences. Established as a Remote Sensing Center in 1971 through an American-Egyptian joint project under the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, it evolved into a national authority in 1994 under the Ministry of Scientific Research.
NARSS aims to advance space technology applications for national development and enhance high-tech capabilities in areas such as regional planning, natural resource management, and environmental monitoring.
The Remote Sensing Sector focuses on utilizing earth observation satellites and airborne sensors to generate spatial data and thematic maps for resource evaluation, hazard monitoring, and environmental management. The Space Sciences Sector is dedicated to the design and development of earth observation sensors, satellite communication systems, and data retrieval processes, with the long-term objective of launching Egyptian remote sensing satellites.
With its multidisciplinary approach, NARSS supports various government entities by providing innovative solutions to address national challenges in sustainable development, environmental conservation, and advanced technology deployment.
