Neurotrauma Care Pathways

Neurotrauma Care Pathways company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Neurotrauma Care Pathways (NCP) originated out of a need to standardize traumatic brain (TBI) and spinal cord injury (tSCI) care across Ontario. Currently, the quality of care after a TBI or tSCI, and the resultant health outcomes, depend on where you live, the funding available based on the cause of injury (car collision insurance, work-related insurance, extended healthcare benefits), and the severity and type of injury suffered. These inequities are magnified for individuals who have complex needs (e.g., mental health challenges, substance use issues, involvement in the justice system) and/or those who are traditionally marginalized in the current healthcare system (Indigenous, people of colour, unstably housed individuals, LGBTQI2S+ community, woman-identifying persons, older adults). However, understanding and characterizing the impact of this inequitable system is challenging due to siloed and disconnected databases across the care continuum, and a lack of data to evaluate long-term care quality and measure chronic health consequences. The goal is to address the lack of standardization in TBI and SCI care as well as the poor harmonization of data across sectors and care stages. Through integrated knowledge mobilization, collaboration with key partners, and data-driven implementation efforts, we hope to make care following TBI and tSCI equitable for all.
