New Nomad Institute is a research and action institute that aims to uncover the enduring knowledge of nomadic societies and apply those learnings towards addressing the climate crisis.
Our work looks to study nomadism at four scales and distill learnings for practical applications:
- Human-scale: Skills and mindsets of nomads and their applications for climate nature solutions.
- Dwelling-scale: Ger (yurt) as a sustainable, flexible, and mobile structure and its applications for housing solutions to natural disasters, climate migration, and other conditions of forced displacement.
- City-scale: Origins of Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia, as a mobile city and its applications for modern urban planning and urban design.
- National-scale: Re-think development policies based on nomadic principles that prioritize harmony between humans, other living beings, and nature.
