The NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre opened in 2008, and is an international centre of excellence which exists to provide infrastructure to support translational research across:
Antimicrobial resistance and infection
Cardiometabolic disease
Haematology
Musculoskeletal disease
Pathology
Surgical technologies
In 2022, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust was awarded £19.8million funding. Since 2008, this has meant more than £40 million of funding has been awarded to the Leeds NIHR infrastructure.
The Leeds NIHR BRC is hosted at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in partnership with the University of Leeds and the University of York. The partnerships are formalised through a research framework agreement. The agreement has led to the NIHR Leeds BRC developing an outstanding reputation for translating basic biomedical research into innovative clinical practice and improved patient care.
