Nijera Kori is an NGO with headquarters in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has been registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau since 1980. Nijera Kori works with over 1,100 villages and has a total membership exceeding 200,000. It works to empower the rural poor of Bangladesh, both women and men, to establish their rights over the institutions that control the allocation of resources and services for the poor.
Nijera Kori means "we do it ourselves." It eschews all forms of service provision for the poor, concentrating instead of mobilising them to claim their entitlements and demand their rights. Nijera Kori is unique among NGOs in its stance against micro-credit, hence the staff like to say its other name is "we don't do credit."
