Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District

Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District was created by the Georgia General Assembly to establish policy, create plans and promote intergovernmental coordination of all water issues in the District from a regional perspective. The Metro Water District’s Water Resource Management Plan brings together water supply and conservation, wastewater management, and watershed management into a single, integrated document. The District, which includes 15 counties and 95 cities, is governed by a board comprised of 26 elected officials and citizen members that are appointed by state leadership. The board is informed in their decision making by the Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) and the Basin Advisory Councils (BACs). The TCC is comprised primarily of local government officials and staff from the counties, cities, and authorities of the District, and provides technical support during the planning process. The BACs are comprised of basin stakeholders including water resource professionals, business leaders, environmental leaders, and the public. The six BACs represent the Chattahoochee, Etowah, Flint, Ocmulgee, Oconee river basins and the Lake Lanier basin and advise on basin-specific issues.
