NutriAfrica aims to address problems that have emerged in the use of commercial therapeutic foods used to treat Severe Acute Malnutrition in developing countries, called Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs).
First, unlike the milk powder of comercial RUTF, it aims at the use of ingredients readily available in developing country markets.
Second, it aims for extremely widespread production relocation due to the easy adaptability of the process, consisting of roasting, coarse grinding, and ball milling.
Third, the adoption as a supplementary ingredient of the dried cyanobacterium Arthrospira maxima (commonly called Spirulina), which is easily cultivated in warm and tropical climates, is the extra gear, ensuring a complete nutritional supply of Vitamins A, D, E and K, as well as Vitamin B12 and strategic minerals for human metabolism such as Copper, Iron, Zinc and Calcium.
The goal of this organization to set up a pilot experimental facility in Gulu, Uganda, to directly test the efficacy predicted by preliminary studies on children.
