About O'Donohues Bakery

O’Donohue’s Bakery is a 4th generation, family run business that was re-established in Tullamore Co. Offaly by husband and wife team, Cathal and Frances O’Donohue. Cathal, a 3rd generation master baker from Co. Mayo, came to Tullamore back in 1989 with his wife Frances and their 4 children to pursue his dream of opening his own bakery. 1st April 1989, O’Donohues start to manufacture and supply their bread with a total of 3 staff. The iconic slogan “Use Your Loaf & Keep the Dough in Town”, quickly gained popularity and today, the bakery thrives in a 26,000 sq. Ft manufacturing facility in Kilcruttin Centre, led by a dedicated team of 30 staff. O’Donohue’s are Grade AA BRC accredited and supply the major and independent retailers in the Midlands with their premium hand-crafted Yeast and Soda breads that have been winning Great Taste Awards since 2008. “There are no short cuts taken when it comes to producing our products. Using real, natural ingredients and allowing the right amount of “Time” for the dough to ferment is the key to achieving each of our products full flavour” – Cathal O’Donohue, Managing Director O’Donohue’s commitment to innovation led to the creation of The Penny Loaf in 2013. Originally created for the Foodservice market, the Penny Loaf is a mini loaf (45-60g) that is fully baked and frozen. With its unique shape and size, it provides the sector with something different, that’s convenient and easy to use and as a thaw and serve product, it helps reduce bread waste. In 2023, O’Donohues launched the Penny Loaf retail pack with Musgraves Ireland. Sold out of the freezer, these are a perfect solution for shoppers trying to reduce their bread waste.
