Officina del Bambù is a start-up created in 2015 by Alessandro and Davide Papale with the aim of exploiting the industrial potential of bamboo cultivation. The two founders have different backgrounds, respectively in Neuroscience and Mechanical Engineering. The mission of the company is to perform research and development on different bamboo species, with different commercial vocations. The species range from small bamboos, used for the extraction of new pharmacological active principles, to giant bamboos, used for industrial application. The offices of Officina del Bambù are located in Padua, with two fully-equipped working stations and the stockroom, whereas the 2 hectares testing field is located in Monte di Malo (Vicenza), where different culture conditions and different approaches in mechanical harvesting are actually tested. The company has also its own bamboo production, employing seasonal workers for farming and harvesting. This agriculture-oriented side of the company was settled down to have a direct knowledge of the problems and the opportunities of the bamboo market.
