My passion for olive oil began in the small olive grove of my grandparents in Nabeul, Tunisia. During summers, surrounded by centuries-old trees, I discovered the value of artisanal olive oil—hand-pressed, unfiltered, and used in its purest form. This appreciation grew further in my parents' kitchen, where olive oil had always been a staple, making them early adopters in the modern sense. This foundation ignited my interest in olive oil, which I deepened through formal training as an olive oil sommelier at the Escuela Superior del Aceite de Oliva (ESAO) in Spain.
From Theory to Practice
Just as a wine sommelier analyzes the subtle nuances of wine, an olive oil sommelier evaluates the complex flavor profiles of olive oil. The role of an olive oil sommelier is diverse. Some focus on the technical and chemical aspects as part of their profession, others aim to become judges in competitions, while others deepen their knowledge to better advise customers—such as private clients in an olive oil business. Personally, I see myself as an enthusiast with a historical affinity for olive oil. My goal is to introduce people to quality olive oil, blending passion with a solid theoretical foundation.
