Palaeozoology Division, Zoological Survey Of India company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Paleozoology Division of the Zoological Survey of India stands as a testament to paleontological research and heritage preservation in India. Operating under the Ministry of Forest Environment and Climate Change, our division manages India's premier fossil collection housed at our museum in New Alipore, Kolkata, featuring 600+ specimens excavated from 15 states spanning millions of years of Earth's history. From Siwalik Hills' extinct mammals and ancient marine ecosystems of Tamil Nadu's Cauvery Basin to rare dinosaur eggs from Gujarat and Bronze Age Indus Valley artifacts from Harappa, Mohenjo-daro and Lothal, we preserve and showcase India's remarkable prehistoric heritage. Under the expert leadership of Smt. Supriya Nandy, Officer-in-Charge, our division conducts deep-time diversity research, educates over 1,000 annual visitors, and maintains one of India's most comprehensive zooarcheological collections, bridging the gap between our ancient past and modern scientific understanding.
