• Conflict Analysis and Stabilization Strategy
PiDC has conducted a number of in-field conflict analyses on which stabilization, peacebuilding and counter-extremism interventions have been designed. Direct investigations in conflict zones, at the contact of conflict-affected populations, as well as parties to the conflict are preferred means of data collection at PiDC, although second-hand source analysis is also employed when security conditions do not allow for direct data collection. In so doing, PiDC draws on its experience conducting impact evaluations, and strives to disseminate best practices and lessons learnt to strengthen programmatic interventions, and promote cross sector-level coordination and learning.
• Environmental Peacemaking Advocacy
Since its creation, PiDC has worked to contribute to the development of environmental peacemaking as a field, and to push ecological imperatives on programmatic agendas where it is relevant. Land and natural resource degradation are factors either directly driving conflict or accelerating conflict dynamics in fragile zones. Yet, tools exist to mitigate human tensions around natural resources and promote the regeneration of these resources. PiDC is therefore involved in various fora, including the Caux Dialogues on Land Lives and Security to promote the ecological imperative as part of global and local strategies.
