Perpetuum Mobile ry Overview

Perpetuum Mobile (PM), co-founded by Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkonen (in alternating order) in 2007, is a curatorial vehicle which brings together art, practice and enquiry. It acts as a conduit and engine to re-imagine certain basic historical, theoretical as well as practical paradigms in fields which often exist in disparate institutional frames and territories. PM has worked extensively in the Nordic, European and international field. In August 2016, PM’s AR-Safe Haven Helsinki won the Annual Art Act Award in Finland. In October 2016, Perpetuum Mobile (PM) / Artists at Risk (AR) was honoured with the CIVI EUROPAEO PRAEMIUM (the European Citizen’s Prize) by the European Parliament. In December 2017, PM’s Artists at Risk (AR) was awarded the Thematic State Prize of Finland. Artists at Risk (AR) was featured on the first SUBSTANCE 100 list in 2020. Perpetuum Mobile develops longer-term thematic projects which come to include conferences, workshops, residencies, small and large exhibitions, festivals, public and street art, publications, films and new formats.
