Perrin C. Smith writes about queerness, identity, and her childhood in the South. Through a wild combination of short stories, memoirs, and essays, they tackle it all. Her writing has appeared in Oxford American, Savannah Magazine, THOM, Port City Review, among others.
As an editor, Perrin is driven by building community. She seeks to form a space for those under-represented in the publishing world, whether through a network of talented, inspiring writers and peers or through thoughtful communication with colleagues. Her own work is focused on place—unpacking the complexity and bitter nuances of the region that raised her. Fascinated by the intersection of language, community, and representation, her work in both fields hopes to elevate those who need a voice.
When she's not writing, Perrin enjoys hiking and undertaking all sorts of new adventures. Recently, Perrin and her partner completed 200 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Earning blisters, sunburns, and stories to last a lifetime, the experience brought her a little too close to nature for her own comfort. Right now, her adventure is volunteering as a workshop leader with Deep, an organization that hopes to showcase middle school voices through creative writing workshops and publishes young people's words from diverse backgrounds.
