Pfau - Promise Foundation Austria

Pfau - Promise Foundation Austria company information, Employees & Contact Information

The PFAU-association was founded in 2011, after Claus Putz and Promise Simwinde Muleya had met each other by chance in Harare in 2008 and joined forces to establish a caritative association for pupils in Kariyangwe, where Promise grew up. The PFAU-association chairman Claus Putz and his friends in or around Friedberg (eastern part of Styria) or the cities of Vienna and Graz set up the PFAU-association in order to help the pupils and the school. The Kariyangwe Mission Primary School was founded in 1958 and is located in the Binga district, approx. 65 km south of the city of Binga. At the moment, around 830 pupils, divided over 8 school levels, are attending classes, which are taught by 20 teachers. Many families in and around Kariyangwe are self-sufficient farmers without additional income from gainful employment. The unemployment rate in Zimbabwe and also in Kariyangwe is around 80% to 90%. Since the forced relocation due to the construction of the Kariba dam in 1950s, the Tonga have lived in a semi-desert area (sandy soils) with little rainfall, frequent dry seasons, but also floods. Most of the parents cannot afford the school fees for their children; many children are orphans and half-orphans. The proportion of half orphans and full orphans at Kariyangwe Mission Primary School is more than 10%.
