This course is designed to be conducted online from the comfort of your own home. You will need a keyboard (ideally a decent acoustic piano or decent-quality 88-note velocity-sensitive electronic piano with weighted keys and a sustain pedal). There are four Phases of three months each. The first three Phases are broken down into fortnightly Segments of assignments. A more complete description of the work structure can be found here: https://www.pianoinayear.com/how-it-works Phase One features popular pieces played to a backing track so you feel like you're in a band, rudimentary technical studies introducing scales and arpeggios, the basics of reading music (which is a lot simpler than English). Phase Two begins the process of playing hands together and gearing up to reading at the level required for grade one. It also includes popular songs. Phase Three is about learning the grade one pieces plus learning how to pass the aural, sight reading and scales & arpeggios tests. Phase Four is passing the exam! The Segments are fortnightly to accommodate hectic schedules. From experience, having four children and full-time work are not easily compatible with learning a complicated new skill.
