Pizza Jazz Cafe Mexico City is a key place in the Portales music scene. The owner and chef is Adrián Escamilla, who not only has excellent seasoning but is also a great saxophonist.
For him, the priority is to show high-quality projects, so silence is the etiquette rule while the musicians do their thing. The concert agenda is updated every day and these are disseminated through the place's Facebook group, where you can also find out about the extension of schedules on particular occasions. The cover depends on the project that is presented —it can be charged from 20 or 30 pesos and has never exceeded 150— and it goes entirely to the artists. Sometimes there are also movie performances.
As its name says, the specialty of the place is pizza, the owner's favorite food, who assures that he has been a fan of this dish since he was a child. However, as he grew older he realized that all establishments —independent and chain— were lowering the quality of their products, so he decided to learn to make them in a self-taught way, just as he learned to play jazz (his musical training is classical, as a licensed bassoon). At first Adrián started the business in his house and since the beginning of 2012 he has been located here, already with a stone oven.
