PLANT PV was founded by former Materials Science and Engineering PhD students from Stanford University. We worked on several ideas in the solar power space but ultimately settled on making metallization pastes for silicon solar cells. We created a "silver-on-aluminum" (AoA) technology that allowed silver pastes to be printed directly on aluminum films. The AoA paste resulted in 0.1% efficiency gain for conventional (back-surface field) solar cells while passing module reliability testing (i.e. 2-3x IEC certification standards). PLANT PV's technology was sold in 2019.
