PLAPER's Near-infrared-powered Smart Plastic Sorter (NIR-SPS) is an innovative solution that addresses the issue of inefficient and inaccurate sorting of plastic recyclables. Our systems utilize Near-Infrared (NIR) technology to analyze the spectral fingerprint of the recyclables, followed by Machine learning-classification to identify 7 types of plastics. This approach outcompetes conventional RVMs that rely solely on barcode-scanning for recognizing exclusively PET beverage bottles. Not all plastic items are presented with barcodes, nor are they made of PET plastic, which makes our solution more versatile and effective.
