Poverty alleviation through social-economical activities implemented in Malawi is increasing, and this is also contributing to the national economic empowerment stipulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Positive Steps has effectively largely contributed to the community empowerment through its various programs ranging from health, livelihood, community empowerment and good governance. Positive steps Malawi is committed to respond to community health with emphasis on the devastating effects of the HIV and AIDS among all ages in the community. The organization is also combating the effects of climate change through resilience programs.
The organization was established in 2003 as a Community Based Organization (CBO), and in 2007 the organization was registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) under the Trustees Incorporation Act of Malawi, Malawi NGO Board and Council for Non-governmental Organization (CONGOMA). Positive steps Malawi is a member of many national and district organizations and networks including MANASO.
Since the existence of the organization, it has effectively reduced the spread of HIV and AIDS through HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) and awareness campaigns on prevention of HIV and AIDS, the organization is also working on prevention, care and support to Key Populations. The organization is presently on women and youth empowerment through village savings and loans (VSL), Sexual reproductive Health and Youth Friendly Health Services (YFHS) targeting adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), and Gender Based Violence (GBV). Early Child Development (ECD), Good Governance and reduced the vulnerability of community members to climate change by combating resilience programs in the communities.
