The new postgraduate program "Geographic Information Systems" regards the scientific field of Geographic Information Systems with emphasis on programming tools and databases in GIS environment, online tools for commercial applications and research topics, both applied and at research level. The teaching and research team is composed of experienced and expertized Professors in both Environmental, Engineering and Computer Sciences.
The courses begin with an introduction to the basic concepts, features, capabilities and applications of GIS and gradually rises to a high level of complex processing in Geographic Information Systems, including Geospatial Modelling and Analysis, Remote Sensing, Cartography and Visualization, Geospatial Databases and Data Mining, Web and Mobile GIS Applications, GIS Programming, spatial Statistics, Decision making, Scientific Research and Natural Hazard Modelling. On the 3rd semester students can select specialized GIS courses focusing on their personal background within one of the following fields: Environment, Archaeology, Economy and Health Science. Geographic Information Systems is a vibrant growing field with multiple applications in a wide variety of scientific and technological domains.
Courses are conducted on weekends in a combination of distance and classroom training and remote only training for students abroad.
