We are a unique production partnership, combining decades of experience in multi-media, journalism, storytelling and the humanitarian field. With two founding members, we have built a broad network of collaborators providing specialist support as needed. We create bespoke, personal, multi-media content that tells the human stories behind some of the most important issues of the day.
JAN POWELL is an award winning storyteller and media producer with a long career in audio and video production, and media management. She has worked for BBC domestic radio and World Service, and produced films all over the world for humanitarian organizations including UNHCR, ILO, World Meteorological Organization, UNDP and UNICEF. She was Head of the Audiovisual Unit of the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) before leaving in 2016 to establish Powell Media.
Awards include CNN World Report Best News Story, Best Environmental Story, and a number of Lovie nominations and awards for films produced for ICRC.
HUGO POWELL is an editor, composer and sound engineer, committed to the humanitarian sector. Passionate about sound, he has been a long time collaborator with the Rio de Janeiro based charity UmRio, providing sound design and music for fundraising film projects. He has worked in a broad range of cultural and political contexts, including Virunga National Park in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo where his interest in humanitarian work was ignited.
Our most recent projects include Powell Media’s first podcast, Staying In with Jan Powell, which began as an antidote to the COVID lockdown. Relaxed conversations with guests from all over the world reveal the highs, lows and hilarities of the lockdown experience.
