Predator Free Wellington is creating the world’s first predator free capital city where communities and native biodiversity thrive. We aim to completely remove rats, possums, stoats and weasels from Wellington, a total area of 30,000 hectares.
We successfully completed Phase 1 and the Miramar Peninsula is predator free! Now we're moving through 'Island Bay to the CBD' and using everything we’ve learned to lower our costs and work smarter and faster to finish the project.
This is a world first project and relies on community support, innovation and hard work to restore the native taonga of Aotearoa.
