Professional Pilot Insurance Plan (PPIP) – “By Pilots for Pilots”
When a group of professional pilots lost their group life coverage through mergers in the airline industry, they began a lengthy search for a group plan. During this search they addressed the challenges pilots often face from traditional employer-sponsored benefit plans.
On average, professional pilots change employers four to five times throughout their careers, creating gaps in group benefit coverage and the need to re-qualify for benefits each time.
In addition, pilots are often "rated" for insurance coverage. As a result, they pay higher than average premiums or have restricted coverage because insurance companies consider flying adds additional risk.
