ProHealth was established in 2008 by Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to meet its strategic objectives and plans in realizing its statutory mandate of providing social insurance as relates to health. It is the intention of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund that ProHealth would solve the problem of financing of health care delivery in Nigeria by providing health insurance in an affordable, acceptable equitable manner. One of the comparative advantages of ProHealth is that it is a public-private driven enterprise.
ProHealth has been accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the regulator of health insurance in Nigeria, to operate as a National health maintenance organisation mandated to establish offices in the six geopolitical zones & 36 States of Nigeria. ProHealth presently runs zonal offices in Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Enugu, Maiduguri, Port – Harcourt and other parts of Nigeria with its Head quarters in Abuja.
