Julie is a seasoned Intellectual Property (IP, including patents & trade marks) attorney (CPA, EPA) having over 40 years' post-qualification experience of protecting, exploiting and managing IP, particularly in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics & personal care and nutriceuticals. Julie is passionate about using IP rights to maximise the value of innovation for all sizes and types of organisation, and about minimising the risks associated with others’ IP. She has worked for both large multinational pharma companies (now known as GSK, Novartis, Merck, Norgine) and SMEs/start-ups.
During the last 10 years or so, Julie has become increasingly interested and experienced in helping both businesses and individuals in or related to the IP field to grow and develop. Therefore, she has honed ‘soft’ skills, not normally within the training and experience of IP attorneys, such as coaching and counselling, and taken roles, e.g. as a skills tutor in Essex University's Talent Development Centre, to develop these. Julie is also actively involved in IP Inclusive and Careers in Ideas. She wants to help safeguard the future of the IP profession and also to widen participation by those from less-represented socio-economic backgrounds.
