The Quex Park Estate consists of over 1750 acres of farmland and woodland spread over 2 farms.
One farm is on Grade 1 calcareous brickearth and the other marshland silts of the Newchurch series.
The Estates also contract farms 5 other holdings.
The crops primarily grown include:
Milling wheat, winter and spring oats, field beans and oilseed rape. Potatoes are grown on the Estate under licence and cattle are grazed under a management agreement.
We use #regenerative #farming techniques, which includes direct drilling, cover crops, pollen and nectar margins and strips. All the equipment is based on multiples of 12 metres and fully incorporates Controlled Traffic Farming.
Equipment/services available for contract/hire:
Horsch Avatar 12m direct drill (can also be used conventionally). Appropriate for the sustainable Farming Initiative (SFI) No-till farming (£73/ha) and able to deliver SFI companion cropping (£55/ha) and drilling of cover crops SFI (£129/ha)
36 metre Agrifac Condor sprayer with pulse width modulation and individual nozzle control. Contains the ‘N-sensor’ which qualifies it for the SFI variable rate application of nutrients (£27/ha)
12 metre Heva top cutter knife roller. Allows for destruction of cover crops and reduction of slugs
Case 9250i Combine Harvester. Works on a 12 metre system and unloading auger so the corn cart can use the 12m tracks. This fits into the Controlled Traffic Farming system which can reduce wheelings on fields by up to 80%.
Management of SFI and Countryside Stewardship plots.
Creation of yield maps and fertility contour maps
Grain storage
Access to regenerative farming agronomy and SFI management.
