High-density lipoprotein (HDL; "good cholesterol") protects humans against cardiovascular disease. HDL’s cardioprotective properties are controlled by particle number (HDL-P), the amount and size of the HDL particles. Current tests only measure surrogate values that are inherently inaccurate. We have therefore developed a method termed calibrated lipoprotein ion separation (CALLIS) to precisely and accurately measure HDL-P in blood.
