RE:tie - the pack cap reuse re:evolution
RE:tie has been developed from the second use advocacy and philosophy of free-to-consumer website Junkk.com.
RE:tie reworks the 'tamper-evident' security closure used on the caps on many premium drink bottles, food, DIY and health product jars, turning a totally useless - and 'til now immediately disposed of - plastic component into a useful cable tie that may be retained for countless applications around the home, office, school, garden, garage, car, etc. Consumers get a freebie, are less likely to litter, and enjoy a sense of participating in greener practices. While brands gain a valuable new marketing tool for very little extra investment, which will also generate legislative compliance benefits (plastic lightweighting offset), plus excellent CSR and PR opportunities. Especially extended now, as in its latest incarnation, RE:tie also makes it easier for those with week grip to tear of these strips.
The idea has found favour at every turn, gaining many awards (including the prestigious Geneva Exhibition of Inventions Gold Medal, with the additional accolade of the Congratulations of the Jury), very positive trade coverage, and is generating interest in the business community, which is already engaging with the Junkk.com concept for complementary green marketing benefits. For instance, ecover has uploaded its entire range (even hiring two student designers to add ideas to inspire users) and, as a consequence of exhibiting at ECOpack/Innovative Packaging, retail phenomenon Poundland were so impressed by the concept and idea behind it, that as part of their environmental commitments they have added the Junkk.com URL to all their packaging to give their customers access to reuse ideas.
And such has been the symbiotic success of that relationship, Junkk.com has been kindly accorded a valued place and link on their website homepage as of Sept. 2010.
