Read Cycle Read Overview

Read Cycle Read is a cycling partnership consisting of Camilla & Julian Read. The mission - to cycle 17,500km through 27 countries over the course of a year commencing in March 2018. The venture was established to raise funds & awareness for the World Land Trust, an international conservation charity which protects the world’s most biologically important and threatened habitats acre by acre. Some statistics from the UK to Singapore: total days 302 (247 days cycling, 55 rest days). We cycled 16,421km, 2 busses (692km), 18 ferries (1,205km), 2 trains (1,460km), police escort in Pakistan (125km), 1 flight (1,457km) & hitched a ride through tunnels, across mud laden roads or were forced into a bus/truck in China (247km). This totals 21,607km. As the crow flies it's 10,883km. We slept in our tent for 166 nights, paid for accommodation in a hotel/hostel/homestay/guesthouse/B&B/shack for 77 nights, stayed with Warmshowers hosts for 32 nights, were invited in by a local for 11 nights & some of the more interesting places included under the stairs on a ferry, a police/fire station, a petrol station, a Sleeper train (where a 6 berth was occupied by 28) for 9 nights. Total ascent of 159,250m (enough to scale Everest 18 times).
