Estimating subsurface properties and their spatial distribution for energy resource exploration has always been an enigma for the geoscience and engineering community. Sometimes, it is the limiting technology and other times; it is the taxing finances. Therefore, a good understanding of these properties at affordable economics is the key to establishing trends and templates for estimation of these through feasibility studies in the lab. Rock and Fluid Multiphysics Laboratory (RFML) is well equipped to fulfill this role. It can handle the multiphysics and multiscale formation characterization under in-situ conditions of pressure, temperature, and multiphase saturations through its existing possibilities for:
• frequency-dependent seismic rock properties in conventional and unconventional reservoirs
• static formation properties in conventional and unconventional reservoirs
• spectral induced polarization for mineral (metallic and non-metallic) and groundwater exploration
• application of physics-based machine learning and AI for resource characterization
• geological sequestration of CO2 and hydrogen storage in sedimentary and volcanic rocks
• geothermal potential
• hydrate morphology characterization and production geomechanics
