Rickety Bridge Estate is located in Franschhoek, South Africa, and is situated between the Dassenberg Mountain and the Franschhoek River, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. The winery has been in operation since 1797 and is owned by the Crosbie family from the UK. The estate was originally part of the La Provence farm, which was given to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. In 1797, Rickety Bridge was granted to Paulina De Villiers, one of the first female landowners in South Africa.
The estate became known as Rickety Bridge in the late 1980s due to the old railway bridge constructed from sleepers that crossed the Franschhoek River and provided access to the property. The bridge was replaced in 1996, providing a safer crossing.
The estate has gained recognition and received numerous awards for its wines. Its commitment to quality and the use of traditional winemaking techniques have contributed to its success.
