Rise Above Poverty is a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness in the Syracuse City School District.
Our mission is to alleviate the socio-economic issues the underserved youth face through community awareness and engagement, providing life essentials, educational training, and mentorship.
Our organization focuses on three core programs. The first program provides basic necessities to students. We understand that many students struggle academically and socially without basic necessities like toiletries, clothing, and feminine hygiene products. Rise Above Poverty has donated over 50,000 personal care and clothing items to students in Syracuse area schools since 2017.
The second program is the Rise Above Poverty Reading Clinic, designed to help third through fifth-grade students read at grade level. Students improve their word recognition, reading fluency, and comprehension.
The third program is Battle Ready Men Mentoring Program. This program aims to empower young boys aged eight to fourteen from inner city areas by connecting them with adult male mentors. Our goal is to provide our mentees with the tools and skills to face and overcome challenges, enabling them to succeed in all areas of their lives.
At Rise Above Poverty, we are committed to creating a community where every child has the opportunity to succeed. We believe providing resources and support to those in need is a fundamental right. We work tirelessly to ensure that our students have access to the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
