The society was established by a group of dynamic students with the hope of associating the industry hence the theme 'bridging the gap between theory and practice'. The society is headed by 15 democratically elected committee members ranging from the president to the Secretary. The committee is selected at the beginning of each academic year. The society is made up of students who are studying actuarial science and risk management and insurance. It is headed by the current chairperson of the department (patron).
Insurance and Actuarial Science society is an academic club for current and past students of the Insurance and Actuarial science department, the society's main objective being to link students with outside commercial environment, to cultivate a culture of professionalism amongst all members. Any current registered student in e department of insurance n actuarial science can join n become an ordinary member, the society wrks thru board members led by the society President elected by members of the society, these board members run e day to day business of the society wch involves organising seminars, philanthropic projects, speaking w e outside industry among other activities.
The insurance and actuarial science society is a registered Nust club that aims to engage department students with local, regional and international industries through meaningful contribution in research, student development programmes, proffessional work through market development and community service activities and creating sustainable relations.
Most importantly the club aims at promoting attitudes of proffessionalism, corporate governance, ethical behaviour, social responsibility, honesty, integrity and transparency.
Membership is open to any legally registered Insurance and Actuarial Science Student .
Former students from the Department of Insurance and Actuarial science are also allowed to become members of the club.
