Reporters Without Borders also known under its French name Reporters sans frontières (RSF), is an international non-profit organisation based in Paris that defends the freedom of information throughout the world. RSF, established in 1985, has a recognised public interest function and a consultative status with the United Nations, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the International Organisation of the Francophonie and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The RSF Asia-Pacific Bureau opened in 2017 in Taipei, focusing on 33 countries and territories in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania. The opening of an Asia-Pacific Bureau aims to better address the new challenges of media freedoms in this increasingly influential region of the world. The bureau, which represents Reporters Without Borders, serves as a strategic platform for operating the RSF missions in the region: monitoring, advocacy, public awareness campaigns, assistance and security training for journalists.
