Safari Yangu is swahili "My Journey" and we hope to share the Journey of immigrants everywhere. SAFARI YANGU is run and managed by students, alumni of Columbia University and volunteer New Yorkers but the idea was originated by Nick Ogutu who is a community organizer, social worker and a human rights activist. Nick Ogutu is well known for his work with Amnesty International and as an advocate for the people of African descent around the world.
Often times immigrants feel scared, secluded and are silenced. We are here to give them a platform to be heard. We host events and projects where we unite the local communities and allow immigrants or people of immigrant parents, share the story about their lives.
Today, the organization is run by volunteers. however, Nick dedicates 100 percent of hid time and resources in this work, and doesn't work anywhere else. The organization is projected to become a 501C in the future. Safari Yangu advocates for immigrants all around the world and want to bring real life stories and experiences for the immigrant community to be heard.
