At Sandy Toes Beachwear, our journey began with a passionate scuba diver and ocean lover who sought something bright and fun to wear on the boat after diving. Frustrated by the lack of eco-friendly towel options, we asked: if we can buy board shorts and bathers made from recycled plastic bottles, why not towels?
After an inspiring 4-night dive trip to the stunning Abrolhos Islands in 2021, the need for quick-drying, sustainable hooded towels became clear. Traditional cotton towels were heavy, bulky, and slow to dry—far from ideal for travel and boating. We envisioned something compact, lightweight, and absorbent that wouldn't harm the environment and would celebrate the beauty of Western Australia.
We delved into the world of recycled fabrics and the process of polymerisation to transform plastic bottles into yarn. Combining our love for the ocean with innovative materials, we created a range of sand-free, quick-drying towels and mats featuring our own photography of Western Australia's breathtaking coastlines and marine life.
