Savannah Jazz, a 501C3 organization, has promoted Jazz throughout the Lowcountry for over 41 years. Our primary initiative is the Annual Savannah Jazz Festival held in late September featuring over 20 performances, most of which are entirely free. This is in the spirit of uniting all races and classes of people from all over the world.
We also hold an annual concert series of 10 performances, 8 of which are free for our members. In September of 2022 we opened the Savannah Jazz History and Hall of Fame Exhibit in the Savannah History Museum; it tells the rich story of jazz history in Savannah that is as old and important as it is in New Orleans but its story is just being told. Our Hall of Fame member number over 40 and include such legends as Joe "Kind" Oliver, Johnny Mercer, Ben Tucker, Irene Reid, James Moody, Trummy Young, Jabbo Smith and Ben Riley.
Our educational programs include films, lectures, and interactive performances geared toward high school and college students and continuing learners of all ages.
